Engaging with primary source material is a key way to foster inquiry and critical thinking in our students. Using sources from the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, paraprofessionals will explore what kinds of documents are considered primary source material, where we find them, what we can use them for, and how we can engage students in learning with them. The day will start at the Brooklyn Collection archive at Central Library with Brooklyn Connections educators. After lunch, we'll go to the Botanic Garden and learn about the unique gardens there, the impressive role that ‘ladies in the laboratory’ have played in shaping this scientific work, and the many ways that teachers and students can learn in the Gardens.
