Rethinking Student Assessment
Mastery-Based Learning as a Tool to Promote Equity
About the School
M.S. 442 School for Innovation, a fully ICT-integrated middle school located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, empowers students to engage in real-world problem-solving while providing an individualized education. The school staff works collaboratively to provide challenge-based projects, flexible teaching and learning environments, meaningful technology integration, and a schoolwide mentoring program that fosters the growth of students both academically and social-emotionally.
About the Visit
At this Showcase, visitors will learn about the purpose of Mastery-Based Learning. Visitors will see how this approach promotes equity and supports all students in understanding their own development to achieve success. Visitors will see students reflecting upon and revising their work as they build towards mastery. Visitors will then have an opportunity to participate in breakouts that are designed to meet educators at varying levels of experience with Mastery-Based Grading and support them in bringing this practice into their own work.
