15K146 Authentic Learning
Promoting Critical Thinking Through Experiential Learning
About the School
P.S. 146 The Brooklyn New School (BNS), located in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, serves grades pre-K-5. BNS was established in 1987 by parents and teachers who shared a vision of a child-centered school for a diverse student body. Teacher teams design in-depth studies composed of carefully selected experiences. This hands-on exploration supports children’s individual needs and interests.
About the Visit
At this Showcase, visitors will learn about the unique approach and structures BNS uses to promote critical thinking, experiential learning, and engagement through inquiry. Visitors will see inquiry-based instruction in the classroom, including outdoor spaces, and learn about the planning processes and curriculum development at BNS. At the end of the day, visitors will be encouraged to consider how they can incorporate experiential, inquiry-based learning into their own work.
