We extend our thanks to Congregation Kehillath Israel for their partnership and support in organizing this charity concert. These funds will go toward developing Limmud—the most popular cultural and educational program in the Jewish world—here in Boston and New England; Center Makor recently acquired the rights to host this program. The philosophy behind Limmud is to make Jewish learning and exploration accessible and engaging for everyone. What is Limmud? In Hebrew, *Limmud* translates as “learning” or “study.” Limmud is the most pluralistic Jewish learning program in existence today. Slava Gaufberg is a living legend—a singer-songwriter, physician, and mountaineer who has preserved that rare zest for life that so many aspire to find. In 1982, he was stripped of his Soviet citizenship and emigrated to the United States. Since 1991, he has practiced and taught emergency medicine at Harvard University. For many years, he served as the head of an emergency medicine clinic, and he currently directs one of Harvard’s residency programs. Since his youth, he has been passionate about mountaineering, downhill skiing, scuba diving, and sailing. In 1990, he successfully summited Mount Everest. He began singing and writing poetry in his childhood. He had the privilege of knowing such figures as Alexander Galich, Vladimir Vysotsky, Bulat Okudzhava, Yuri Kukin, Evgeny Klyachkin, and Alexander Dolsky. He accompanied Vladimir Vysotsky during recording sessions; the Melodiya label subsequently released two vinyl records featuring these recordings. In 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, at the invitation of the Bulat Okudzhava Foundation, he performed solo concerts at the “House of Bulat” on the Arbat in Moscow; in 2017, he performed at the House of Journalists; and in 2019, at the Moscow House of Cinema. In December 2019, he hosted a memorial evening in Moscow dedicated to his close friend, Dima Mezhevich—an actor at the Moscow Taganka Theatre.
