- **Event Description**: An exploration of representation in juvenile prisons with young migrants.About this EventThrough photography, material research, and community-based practice, Carol Priego explores climate change, social justice, and memory, examining how images shape identity and our relationship to the world.During this artist talk, Priego will present Amares Azielos, a collaborative photography project developed in 2023 inside the young adult detention center of La Roca del Vallès, Spain. Many of the participants are young migrants living far from family and friends, without access to mirrors, cameras, or phones. In a world saturated with images, the inability to see and document oneself becomes another form of isolation.The project creates a space where inmates and volunteers make images together without knowledge of participants’ sentences. They focus on human connection rather than labels of “good” or “bad.” Through collaboration, participants explore creativity and mutual understanding.The project uses cyanotype, a 19th-century photographic process that uses sunlight to create blue images. Objects are placed on light-sensitive paper and exposed to the sun; the covered areas stay white while the exposed areas turn blue, creating an image. Inspired by Anna Atkins, who created the first photobook in history using this technique, Amares Azielos gives participants the chance to tell their own stories.Please note this will be held in the Tim Hetherington Library, which is located on the 2nd Floor of  614 Courtlandt Ave, Bronx, NY 10451.
