This is an indoor and outdoor event.What to ExpectLearn from a beekeeper. Local backyard beekeeper Stephen Starks will share insights and tips from his decades of beekeeping experience. Enjoy a honey demonstration and, if you choose, sample several types of honey, including gallberry, wildflower, palmetto, and orange blossom.Make a garden puddler. Create your own DIY garden puddler to take home. This simple make-and-take project provides water, minerals, and a fruit source to attract a variety of insects to your landscape.Learn, count and contribute. Pollinators are essential to our ecosystems and food supply. About 75% of food crops and 80% of flowering plants rely on insect pollination. During the program, you’ll learn how to identify several pollinators including those with shiny heinies and fuzzy fannies, then head outdoors to observe and count pollinators as part of the University of Georgia-led GSEPC citizen science project. Your observations help scientists track pollinator populations and trends across the Southeast.Along the way, you’ll also learn about some of North Florida’s underused plants that can help create better pollinator habitat and entice these important insects into your landscape and garden. Whether you’re an experienced gardener or just getting started, this program is a fun way to learn, get outdoors, and contribute to real-world science.
