Join us for an accessible introduction to the Elder Futhark, the oldest of the runic alphabets and the deep root from which every later runic tradition has grown. It was carried for centuries by the early Germanic peoples — the source tribes from whom the later Norse, Anglo-Saxons, Franks, Goths, and Vandals would descend — and used for writing, for memorial, and for divination. The twenty-four runes have been studied and practiced for nearly two thousand years.

In this class we will explore:

A brief history of the Elder Futhark and the world it came from

The myth of how Odin won the runes through nine days and nights upon Yggdrasil

The meaning, keyword, and character of each of the twenty-four runes

One practitioner's approach to casting the runes for guidance and divination

Whether you are entirely new to the runes or returning to them with fresh eyes, this class is meant as a doorway — a place to begin a practice you can continue on your own.
