New conference announced: CRAFTs in Antiquity
We are pleased to announce the launch of a new conference series: Connecting Research Approaches to Fabrication and Trades in Antiquity (CRAFTs in Antiquity), hosted this year by the Institute of Archaeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Brno.
The first edition will take place in Brno (4–6 November 2026). CRAFTs in Antiquity offers a unique combination of academic papers and hands-on craft demonstrations, bringing researchers and craftspeople together to explore ancient craftworking traditions in Europe and the Mediterranean (c. 1000 BC –1000 AD).
The Call for Participants is now open. We welcome:
• academic paper proposals
• proposals for craft demonstrations
While each edition of the conference will highlight a different material category, contributions on all types of crafts are welcome. This year’s thematic focus is metalworking, which will be featured during a dedicated day of the conference.
