# Event Details

- **Event Name**: Guided Walk Through Black History
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 26 Feb, 2026 at 10:30 am
- **Event Description**: Join us at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre as we honor history and celebrate the strength of community during Black History Month. Brentsville was the site of tragedy and joy for Prince William County’s African American community as the fourth county seat from 1822-1893. Hear some of the stories from the area about the enslaved people in central Prince William County, free blacks, African American Civil War veterans, the joy of emancipation, lingering legacy of Reconstruction, and the beginning of the Jim Crow era. Step back in time and uncover powerful stories of resilience and hope.

This free tour is perfect for history enthusiasts looking to connect with local heritage and it will be led by docents from the Prince William County Office of Historic Preservation.

This event is outdoors, and it involves walking on uneven surfaces. Dress warm and wear comfortable walking shoes. Complimentary hot chocolate will be served.

If we have inclement weather, we will have the tour on Thursday, March 5, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. – 12noon. AARP will send a message to all registered guests 24 hours prior to the tour.
