Continuing where we left off in the previous inversions workshops, we look towards variations in the asanas.
The postures in their primary format are at their lightest as (through correct technique and application) the body is efficiently aligned with gravitational forces. When practicing variations, we need to know where the moving center of gravity is in order to retain lightness and stability in the asana.
We revisit the foundations for Sirsasana (head balance), Sarvangasana (shoulder balance), Pincha Mayurasana (arm balance) and Adhomukha Vrksasana (full hand balance), and explore variations in these inversions. We will use a number of techniques, tools and apparatus to correctly align the body when moving away from its center, and learn where movement needs to be initiated from to bring precision, efficiency, beauty, intelligence and grace into our practice.
Sirsasana and Sarvangasana are restorative asanas. Through understanding the correct foundation, we can work towards holding them for 10 - 20 mins (before variations) to fully appreciate their effects on the physical and subtle body.
This workshop is open to anyone who already has a head balance and shoulder balance practice and can comfortably hold them for a few minutes.
Not suitable for anyone with high/low blood pressure, weak eye capillaries, detached retina, or any injury to and/or arthritis in the neck.
