Helen Sheppard, Beccy Golding, Doctor Subitha Baghirathan and Isadora Vibes.
Subitha was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Science by UWE Bristol in July 2025, for her 11 years of activism and research for health improvements for visibly minority ethnic people in the wider Bristol area. Her work often inspires her writing; motherhood, living here as a Woman of Colour and a practising Buddhist are also her ‘muses’.
Her memoir of life in Saudi Arabia was published by Tangent Books in 2012; her poetry has featured in online publications including Ink, Sweat and Tears; Poetry Space. She was one of the winners in the inaugural Poetry Competition of Bristol Cathedral, 2021.
Subitha is Sri Lankan; Bristol has been her other home since 2000.
Helen Sheppard is a Bristol-based writer, a twin and has worked as a midwife. Her poetry explores themes of birth, life, family, friendship, health and loss, and those whose voices are often unheard.
She started to write in her forties during a 'kick start your reading' class. Helen co-runs Satellite of Love Word events. Loves the alchemy of community events with Lyra Poetry Festival, PBH Free Fringe Candlelit sessions and performance of Voices of the Bedminster Coal Miners. She enjoys mentoring new poets.
Helen's work has been published widely, including These are the Hands NHS Anthology, Commended in Hippocrates Prize 2017 Tools of the Trade – Poems for New Doctors, Under the Radar and Hecate Birth Anthology.
