Women In Film: Talk with Tara Judah
Ahead of Epigram Film & TV's special Women In Film issue later this term, we are combining our regular writers meeting with a special talk by Watershed Cinema Producer, Tara Judah.
Once again, there have been no nominations for female directors at the Oscars and in 2017, only 31.8% of speaking characters in the top 100 films were women. The inequality exists further behind the scenes as well - there was only 1 female composer out of 112 in total for the same 2017 films. It's clear the issue needs addressing and the Time's Up movement has started a big conversation in the industry.
Tara first got into film in her native Australia and has been working in the industry as a curator, writer, and broadcaster for the best part of the last decade. She will be talking about her experiences in the film industry and the opportunities available, especially for aspiring young women, as well as specific, unsung female filmmakers. Her vast knowledge of many aspects of cinema and the professional world behind it is incredibly inspiring and insightful for all those with similar interests. She will also be discussing the application process - NOW OPEN - for the Cinema Rediscovered Critics Workshop for any aspiring film critics in the room.
