UoB: Introduction to Race Equality, May Training

UoB: Introduction to Race Equality, May Training

This is a free training session available to only University of Bristol Staff. The session will be delivered 2 facilators from Advance HE, which was formed in March 2018, following the merger of the Equality Challenge Unit, the Higher Education Academy and the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

Equality and diversity issues can be complex and emotive and we recognise that participants may be anxious about the focus of the training and the potential for ‘getting it wrong’. The course is designed to help participants to navigate their way through the issues in a way that is both supportive and challenging.

Group discussions and interactive activities will give participants the opportunity to deepen their understanding of issues relating to race in Higher Education.

Content that will be covered: History and context

Language and terminology

Whiteness privilege and advantage exercises

Racism both overt and covert

Effective individual, group and organisational strategies for tackling racial inequalities

FREE LUNCH will be provided

This event organised by the University of Bristol Student Inclusion in partnership with Staff Equality Diversity Inclusion Team.
