Live Comedy with Laura Lexx and Sean McLoughlin
*Online tickets have sold out for this night. There are a handful available on the bar, so get your butt down to the Crown!*
Our very first show at a brand new comedy club, hidden beneath St. Nick's market in the middle of Bristol's Old City. It's going to be a proper club, a cavey, low-ceiling room, a perfect comedy venue that's been waiting for this moment since it first opened in 1741.
We wanted to make sure to set an impossibly high standard with our first lineup. And we did it, landing two of the absolute top acts going in the UK right now, Laura Lexx and Sean McLoughlin!
On his most recent tour, Ricky Gervais had to follow Sean McLoughlin. Unlucky! Sean is widely regarded as one of the top acts going, at the top of his game and generally one of those acts that makes other acts shake their heads and say "why do I even try? He's too good!"
He's been on Sean Howard's Stand-Up Central and Comedy Central at the Comedy Store, as well as the Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal. He was a star of Viceland's Brexit Stage Left and last year he played Royal Albert Hall, opening for Bill Burr.
Laura Lexx just absolutely smashed her BBC's Live at the Apollo debut, hot off a sellout run at the Edinburgh and Brighton Fringe with her show Trying. She frequently tops the list of best act and best compere, and this year won the Comedian's Choice Award for Best Performer.
She's about to take Trying to the Soho Theatre in Olde Londone Towne, but first, she's swinging through the West Country and we are absolutely thrilled to have her on this monster lineup.
Hosted by Tony Chiotti, and featuring a middle section of local comedy heat.
The doors open at 7pm, and the show starts right at 8pm. Arrive in plenty of time to be social and enjoy the historic venue.
The venue is downstairs. 18+.
Lineup subject to change, but a great show is assured.
Praise for Laura Lexx:
**** The Telegraph - “A bouncy, bubbly stand up star… infectious effervesence… warm approachability puts you in mind of Sarah Millican and whose smiliness recalls the ever-beaming Victoria Wood… ”
***** Voice Magazine - “an impressive ability to role-play characters, an energetic delivery, and a masterful structure and you’re on to a winner, no, a masterpiece. It also managed to find a superb balance between the emotion and the silly. It’s such a well-crafted show that I’m left with words such as poignant, warm, heartfelt, but actually, I just want to say, you’d better bloody see this show or you’re a monster. This is a show that will leave you with all over tingles.”
***** Funny Women
**** The Peg - “This is a truly witty and masterfully crafted show about one woman’s experience of modern life and struggles with mental illness.”
**** Entertainment Focus - “Stomach-achingly funny… an extremely honest and compelling show…”
**** Broadway Baby - “Refreshing… heartrending and funny… spits out quick quips like bullets… Lexx is so naturally funny”
