About the event

I Am Making Art: Memory Traces With Kamina Walton
A workshop led by artist and Spike Island studio holder Kamina Walton exploring memory, grief and loss through the senses.

About this Event

Drawing on Spike Island’s exhibition, Dan Lie: Sleeping Methodologies, artist and Spike Island studio holder Kamina Walton leads a workshop exploring memory, grief and loss through the senses.

Starting in the gallery space, the workshop will touch on themes of restorative rest, recovery and emotion, using practices such as writing, gesture and personal objects as anchors of memory.

Participants are invited to bring an object that signifies someone who is no longer with them, touching on the visibility of what Lie refers to as ‘the secret society that must hide their emotions’.

The essence of memory lies not in perfection but in imperfection – the gaps, the absences, and the human need to fill them with love, meaning, and a deeper understanding of our own evolving identities.

Kamina Walton

Kamina Walton is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, creative coach and Founder of Rising Arts Agency. Historically her practice has been cited in community, conversation, and collaboration, with work developed over extended periods of time and shared in public spaces.

Currently, Walton is exploring her identity as a woman in her sixties, and her evolving relationship with ageing, invisibility, and rage – her body being central to this practice. She moves across multiple forms – photographic, text, moving image, spoken word, dance, audio, somatics and deep listening – all rooted in play, risk, rhythm and possibility.
