Fun Ferns in Leigh Woods nature reserve with Avellana Ecology
Have you ever wanted to know your Spleenwort from your Hart's Tongue fern? Discover the wonderful ferns of Leigh Woods with Avellana Ecology
Fun ferns ID education session with ecologist Neill Talbot
In this morning ID education session with Neill Talbot of Avellana Ecology, in the Site of Special Scientific Interest and nature reserve of beautiful Leigh Woods, you will learn how to identify common woodland species of fern such as Hart's-tongue fern, Soft-shield fern and Polypody. We will look at various key features such as the frond shape, the pinnules and spores.
Neill will also talk about the folklore and uses of different fern species. Hand outs are provided for each attendee. At the end of our session we'll enjoy a hot drink at our Green Wood Barn with a chance to ask Neill questions.
Improve your identification skills and make some discoveries you can impress your friends with! This event is suitable for adults and students with little or no knowledge of woodland ferns. We remain socially distanced on this session and have a limit on numbers.
Please note: This event is weather-dependent and for safety reasons we will not be able to continue in very heavy rain or high winds. If this event is cancelled due to the above you will be fully refunded your ticket cost including Eventbrite fees. This event may be rescheduled in the case of cancellation, but there is no obligation to attend the rescheduled date. The session is accompanied by your My Green World tutor who is outdoor first aid trained and DBS checked.
