Family Life with a Deaf Child
Family Life with a Deaf Child: An opportunity to share experiences and to develop strategies for family life as deaf children progress from infancy to adulthood.
The event is open to families who have a deaf child or children (from birth to 16 years)
Key note: Jane Russell, University of Manchester, a Mother of deaf and hearing triplets will be talking about her study of parents of deaf children.
Issues and Discussions: Hilary Sutherland and Heather Pender (Deaf Studies Trust) introduce the topics:
Family Cohesion: daily interaction, life at home, deaf and hearing children
Family Well-Being: emotional and behavioural development, family management, health, nutrition, sleep
Impact from Deaf Education Processes: educational assessments/processes/parent-school interactions, deaf and hearing children in different schools
Resilience and Growth: the future – the family through adolescence, employment, support in adult life
Interpreting (BSL/English) is provided
