About the event

Christmas Cheer - Bristol
The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble will present a festive program of holiday favorites called “Christmas Cheer” at two locations in December. The first concert will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 900 Spring Street, in Johnson City on Thursday, December 18, and the second will be at Central Presbyterian Church, 331 Euclid Avenue in Bristol, VA, on Saturday, December 20. Both concerts will begin at 7:30 pm and will be followed by a light reception.

This program will include a wide variety of music, both sacred and secular, performed a cappella and with piano accompaniment. Highlights include a selection of carols by Alfred Burt along with arrangements of “It Came Upon the Midnight Clear” by Joel Raney and “Go, Tell it on the Mountain” by Stacey V. Gibbs. The program will close with a stirring rendition of “A Christmas Carol” from the movie Scrooge, arranged by Mark Hayes.

“We have enjoyed preparing this joyful music, and we hope it will bring a smile to the face of our audiences,” said artistic director Noah DeLong. “Our singers take to heart what a wise elf once said, that ‘The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!’”

Audience members are invited to join the ensemble in spreading even more cheer through participating in a holiday toy drive. New, unwrapped toys for children of any age will be collected at both concerts and donated to local charities.

The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble (AMEn) includes singers from across the Tri-Cities region and is committed to engaging audiences through musical precision, passion, and commonality. With a dual sense of spirited fraternity and professional excellence, AMEn aims to bring a variety of choral music to our community, and to educate, inspire, and entertain audiences through its activities. The ensemble is led by artistic director Noah DeLong, assistant conductor Mitchell Snapp, and pianist Steve Sensenig.

Concert admission is by donation, with suggested amounts of $10 for adults and $5 for students. The Appalachian Men’s Ensemble is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Additional information and concert updates can be found at www.appmensensemble.org and on Facebook.
