- **Event Description**: From July 18-20, people from across the continent will converge in Mparntewe/Alice Springs to protest against Pine Gap – the US military’s spy base situated in the middle of Australia. It is Australia’s most significant contribution to the deadly overseas ventures of the US military, and one that we Australians have never been given a say over or even an accurate explanation of what happens there.

In Magandjin/Brisbane, we will join the convergence by celebrating some of the decades of resistance that has managed to at least keep Pine Gap and its operations in the public eye. We will start by watching the groundbreaking hour long 1982 documentary “Home On The Range” – one of the first pieces of media to investigate the origins, operations and political impacts of Pine Gap.

We will then hear from filmmaker Gil Scrine about the making of the documentary, and speak to local activists who have been involved in protests at Pine Gap from the 1983 women’s peace camp to the 2016 “Peace Pilgrim” walk on – and many others in between.

This event will be held in the lecture theatre adjoining the gallery space at the Queensland College of Art and Design (Griffith Uni Southbank campus). We acknowlege the Jagera and Turrbal people as the original and continuing custodians of the land.
