Brighton, United Kingdom
This day workshop focuses on drawing skills aimed at creating short informal sketches of the portrait with lots of shorter poses to draw from the model. These ideas transfer to creating the foundations of a longer drawing as well.
This workshop welcomes artists of all abilities who are keen to develop their portrait drawing whether it be beginners looking for a place to start or anyone who is keen to try new approaches.
What to Expect
The first half of the workshop will cover the first steps in laying out a portrait with emphasis on the gesture of the head and face and basic proportions and construction of the head.
After lunch we will look at more exercise-driven experimental approaches such as varying our materials and more diverse approaches to drawing the portrait.
Tutor Lancelot Richardson will be leading the workshop providing tutored sections and will be on hand to offer assistance throughout the day.
The workshop runs from 10am-5pm on Sunday 26th March with a 1 hour lunch break from 1-2pm. There will also be extra teabreaks in the day.
You may arrive at 9:45am onwards. When you arrive please head for the large blue door next to the Managers Office on the New England Street side of the building. Please ring the number on the door to be let in.
There will be lots of opportunities to practise these skills by drawing from the model in the workshop and tutor Lancelot Richardson will be on hand to provide assistance and feedback.
All materials are included in the cost of the course though you may wish to bring a folder to take your drawings home in.
