This one-day course will focus on getting to know all the basic willow weaving tools, how they are used and what type to select for what job.
We will focus on the main tools of:
rapping iron- what weight and style, and what is the ring on the end for?
secateurs- bypass and snips, and when to use each
bodkin- what size do you need and why?
side cutters, hook knives and other finishing tools
and also the additional tools of:
steaming sheets
soaking bags
hessian sheet
dragonfly fids.threaders
stripping brakes
We will look at basic tool maintenance and care (to include sharpening), storage of tools and how to make your own supplementary tools, which may include:
willow winder
bench hook
sharpening strop
sharpening stick
hoop jigs
For those progressing in their basketry, there will also be an opportunity to develop their knife work and to use cleaves and skeining tools.
