The Vale of Glamorgan Ultra and Coastal Races are the original trail and ultra events along this spectacular stretch of the South Wales coast - now proudly celebrating their 11th year!
The Races
Vale Ultra (32.5 miles)
A point-to-point epic along the entire Vale of Glamorgan Coast Path.
Vale Trail 18.5 (“Mini Ultra”)
A stunning 18.5-mile journey through the heart of the Glamorgan Heritage Coast.
Vale Trail 10
The perfect intro to coastal trail running, covering the final 10 miles of the longer routes.
The Route
Vale Ultra – 32.5 Miles
Kicking off at 08:00 from the historic Penarth Pier, the Ultra follows the Wales Coast Path—almost entirely on trail—as it winds along dramatic clifftops and through hidden, rugged bays. Runners will pass 19 beaches in total, with the final 14 miles traversing the breathtaking Glamorgan Heritage Coast, known for its towering cliffs, unique rock formations, quiet coves and rolling countryside.
Vale Trail 18.5 – “Mini Ultra”
Starting at 10:30 beneath the striking viaduct in Porthkerry Park, Barry, this race joins the Ultra route at the shoreline, offering runners a front-row seat to some of the most scenic parts of the coast.
Vale Trail 10 – 10 Miles
Beginning at 10:45, this accessible 10-mile route joins the other races as they pass through Llantwit Beach, Southerndown, and Ogmore—a coastal highlight reel in miniature.
All races finish together at Ogmore-by-Sea Village Hall, after a final climb up the infamous “Hill of Doom”, with sweeping sea views behind you and a warm finish-line welcome ahead!
The race has become a firm favourite regularly selling out. This year we have increased capacity to 750 runners over all 3 races. Whether you're new to ultra running or an experienced runner looking for a fast training run, it's a great way to kick off spring 2026!
