"The Apology Tour" is a 2026 tongue-in-cheek promotional campaign celebrating the 40th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie (1986), framed by Hasbro as a lighthearted apology for killing off Optimus Prime and traumatizing a generation of fans.

Set in 2005, the heroic Autobots prepare to retake their homeworld of Cybertron from the Decepticons. During a deadly battle, their leader Optimus Prime is mortally wounded by Megatron. Optimus passes the Matrix of Leadership to Ultra Magnus. Meanwhile, a planet-sized entity named Unicron reformats the dying Megatron into the powerful Galvatron. Galvatron is sent to destroy the Matrix, which is the only weapon that can stop Unicron from consuming Cybertron.
