- **Event Description**: Join Tacoma artist David Souza for a 2-hour class with an emphasis on watercolor fundamentals, with a splash of color theory.About this EventThis class is geared towards beginner watercolor artists, providing instruction on techniques to quickly grow more comfortable with the medium. Basic color theory will also be introduced as a secondary element of the 2-hour course. Participants should walk away with foundational knowledge to begin their journeys as painters.Artists of all levels are welcome to join. If you have wanted to try watercolors but were anxious to try, or if joining a group activity appeals to you, then this class will be right down your alley. This is a low pressure, friendly environment to learn in. There will be one break at the halfway point to allow portions to dry. Participants are welcome to move around, visit, and to find snacks.Participants will be expected to bring their own supplies. Limited tools and materials may be provided based on need. Salt, liquid mask, water for brushes, and paper towels will be provided.Required Supplies:9" x 12" - 300gsm Paper (Strathmore and Canson are a good value for beginners and are often on sale)Size 8 Round Synthetic Watercolor Brush (Princeton brushes are pretty consistent and easy to find.)Red, Yellow, Blue and Indigo Watercolor Paints (I recommend the Windsor & Newton Cotman series that come in tubes; see the FAQ for specific hue recommendations.)Palettes (I find that a ceramic palette with 8+ sections works best. It's generally better to have too many than too few!)Pencil & Waterproof Pen - Sakura Micron 3mm - 10mm or Fine Tip Sharpies perform well. Most markers and pens, including Staedler, are NOT waterproof unless labelled as such!Recommended Supplies:Size 6 Mop Brush - Holds a lot of paint/water and is great for large, detailed areas that need to be filled in quickly.Size 10 Flat Brush - Great for large, linear washes and for quickly wetting large sections of paper.White Watercolor/Gouache/Acrylic Paint - Good for touching up small mistakes or creating effects.Board & Painter's Tape - Fixes the paper to a flat surface to help prevent warping and bending. Acrylic panels work well; wood or MDF may warp over time.Brush Soap - Important tool for maintaining brushes regardless of what kind of painting one does.Please see the FAQ below or reach out to me directly for questions regarding materials to bring for the class.
