Celebrate World Mental Health Day with a professionally guided walk through the beautiful Mynydd Illtud, led by the expert team at ROC Outdoor Adventure.
This circular route offers breathtaking views of the Brecon Beacons includes Pen y Fan, Corn Du and the surrounding valleys. Our professional guides will ensure you have a safe, enjoyable and enriching experience.
The walk is designed with plenty of opportunities to pause and enjoy the tranquil surroundings.
What to Expect
-Distance: 5.5km (approximately 3.4 miles)
-Duration: 2.5 hours, including breaks
-Ascent: 105 metres (344 feet)
-Terrain: A mix of open moorland, grassy paths, and well-trodden tracks

What You’ll Discover Geology
Mynydd Illtud’s landscape is shaped by ancient glacial activity, with gently undulating terrain and striking ridges carved out during the last Ice Age. The area features distinctive sandstone outcrops, part of the Old Red Sandstone that characterises much of the Brecon Beacons.
Flora and Fauna
The open moorland is rich in biodiversity, with heather, gorse and bilberry adding seasonal colour to the landscape. You may also encounter wild grasses and mosses that thrive in this upland habitat.
History
Mynydd Illtud is steeped in history, with evidence of ancient human activity, including Iron Age hill forts and prehistoric burial cairns scattered across the moor. This landscape has long been a place of significance, connecting past generations to the land.

-The majestic summits of the Brecon Beacons, particularly Pen y Fan and Corn Du, the highest mountains in southern Britain.
-The Usk Valley, with its patchwork of fields and woodlands.
-On clear days, views extending towards the Black Mountains and Llangorse Lake.
