? FAQ for Newcomers

"What is Belegarth?"
Belegarth Medieval Combat Society is a fast-paced, full-contact foam fighting sport. Think "D&D" meets rugby. We use safe, foam-padded equipment (swords, shields, spears, and more) to simulate medieval combat in a competitive and friendly environment. 

"I’ve never done this before. Can I come?"
Absolutely! Most of our members started with zero experience. We love teaching new fighters.

"I have kids, can I bring them?"
YES! We keep our practices family friendly, and many of us who regularly attend have children that range in ages from newborn to teens! It takes a village, and this is ours. 
***TO PARTICIPATE IN FIGHTING: Minors must be at least 16 years old WITH A NOTORIZED WAIVER and their parent/guardian must be present for the duration of practice.

"Do I need to bring gear?"
Nope! We provide "loaner gear" (foam swords and shields) for all new participants. Just bring yourself.

"What should I wear?"
Wear comfortable athletic clothes and sturdy shoes (no cleats). You’re going to be moving a lot, so think of it like going to the gym.

"Is it safe?"
Safety is our #1 priority. All equipment is checked for safety, and we have strict rules and marshals (referees) to ensure everyone stays safe while having fun.
