Our WE  HEART LA: NOIR Summer Film Series Begins with THE BIG SLEEP! Join us this summer to celebrate the city synonymous with American cinema – the city that for more than a century has epitomized both the brightest highs & darkest lows enacted in the pursuit of the American Dream. Before each screening will be a live performance of ambient/folk-jazz music inspired by the film by REVENANT SEA and a raffle to win a $25 gift certificate to Verdigris Antiques! Doors 7pm. Show 7:30. Film 8pm.

THE BIG SLEEP (1946, Directed by Howard Hawks, 100 mins). 
The dames keep throwing themselves at him even as corpses keep dropping... Cynical Private Eye Philip Marlowe (Humphrey Bogart) is hired by a hothouse-ensconced retired general to investigate the gambling debts of his nympho daughter (Lauren Bacall), but before the complex case is over, he's seen murder,  blackmail and what might be love... this fabulously sexy (and bonkers) Adapted from Raymond Chandler's 1939 pulp-noir classic and co-scripted by William Faulkner providing for some of the most electric of double entendres ever immortalized on film! 

Revenant Sea
Revenant Sea is the collaborative ambient/folk-jazz project of Mark Schwaber and Sheri Hupfer, combining haunting melodies and deeply textured arrangements. The project captures introspective, atmospheric soundscapes—mixing intimate folk lyricism with subtle jazz infusions and field recordings. Currently stemming from the Brattleboro//Greenfield area,  Revenant Sea draws organically from its creators’ chemistry and shared influences.

Mark Schwaber is a seasoned indie musician, producer, with deep roots in experimental songwriting and collaboration. As a multi-disciplinary artist, Sheri Hupfer works in many mediums; from the instrument of the body, textiles and rusty metal, to arranging objects in her interior design work, sound is always at the foundation. It is the attention to how sound moves in space, how objects placed can bend or alter it. Sheri is most vested in how place informs the music while utilizing voice to translate memory and emotion recognizing that much of the sound is not heard but felt.

Together they form Revenant Sea: a moody, atmospheric musical venture that blends their perspectives into something haunting and deeply emotive.
