- **Event Description**: Join Buchanan County Conservation for a seed harvest at Bearbower Sand Prairie in celebration of National Public Lands Day. The dress code is Iowa Farmers. Put on your best bib overalls, sturdy boots, and your best straw hat. Just like farmers we will do our own seed harvest in fall and help one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, the prairie.

Did you know that prairies are more rare than the great barrier reef? Less than 0.1% of prairie is left on Public Lands in the state of Iowa and they need our help now more than ever! Help us build more prairie by harvesting seed from many of Iowa’s unique native plants. 

The event will consist of an intro to prairies, a brief run down of the plants will collect, and then the harvest.

Participants come dressed for the conditions, wear long pants, closed-toed shoes, and bring a bottle of water. 

The area has no trails and will be on the unbeaten path. There will also be no bathrooms available, please go before arriving.
