- **Event Description**: Join ash alberg and Samuel Bautista Lazo for a hands-on experience and learning about dyes grown and harvested in both MB and Oaxaca, MexicoAbout this EventThe Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM), along with BU CARES, is pleased to invite you to our upcoming Think & Nibble event, featuring Land-Based Teachings: Natural Dyeing Workshops and Truth-Telling.Over natural dyeing workshops and baked goods, ash alberg and Dr. Samuel Bautista Lazo (Oaxaca, Mexico) will offer a hands-on experience for those interested in learning about dyes grown and harvested in both Manitoba and Oaxaca. During the workshops, you'll spend the evening learning techniques and lessons from two land-based textile artists/educators/researchers. Participants will dye organic cotton hankies with cochineal and local flowers to take home. Samuel (he/him/el) is an Indigenous Oaxacan (Benizaa/Zapotec) weaver, storykeeper, and natural dyer from Xiguie'a (Teotitlán del Valle). ash (they/them) is a descendant of settlers (Polish/Scottish) who grew up on Treaty 1 territory and co-creates with local plants as a natural dye artist-educator, currently pursuing their PhD in the Faculty of Education. The pair co-conspire on various projects centred around material and ancestral knowledges with more-than-human kin, collaborating across cultures and landscapes.Dinner will be provided.
