- **Event Description**: Explore Brandon’s rich and fascinating river history with this guided walk ending with exhibition and other activities.About this EventFind out about river navigation, trade and recreation past, present and future on this guided walk.Get a sense of what it was like to work in the river trades: on the lighters, in the maltings, in one of the important riverside inns, or fishing for eels and making the willow traps. Hear stories of regattas on the river, raft races, swimming, boating and fishing and other riverside activities (details confirmed nearer the time). At the end of the walk, dive deeper into the details by exploring our river exhibition, enjoy a chat over tea, coffee and other refreshments.This route has been specially created for Brandon's Heritage Open Days and will be guided by Imogen Radford and OSBrecks volunteers.Brandon's River History: Working Lives and RecreationWhen: Saturday 20th SeptemberTime:Walk (with riverside activities) from 1.30-4pmMeeting Point: Bridge Hotel, High Street, Brandon IP27 0AXWhatThreeWords///riding.pastime.saddensGoogle MapsDistance: Up to 1.5 miles/2.4kmCost: Fully funded with thanks to the support of Brandon Town Council.Suitable for: All ages, though part of the walk is alongside a busy road, so may be tricky for young families.Accessibility: There are two possible routes, between which we will decide on the day depending on those attending. The slightly longer walk is accessible, along pavements and firm paths, while the shorter version has a narrower path and a section across grass. If you have any accessibility questions, please contact us at brecks@suffolk.gov.uk or on 01473 265600.Facilities: There are refreshments and toilet facilities at the start and end of this route, as well as toilets and a café at the halfway mark in Brandon Leisure & Health Hub.Parking: Free parking is available near the meeting point at the Bridge Hotel - there will be directions on the day.Public Transport:The closest bus stop is Riverside Way (1 minute walk). For information on bus times, visit bustimes.orgBrandon train station is located 5 minutes walk away with trains from Thetford, Norwich and Cambridge.Dogs: Dogs on short leads welcome. Please be aware that part of this walk is alongside a busy road.
