A Service Providers Training on Supporting Mental Health of Newcomer ACB Communities

About this Event

This workshop will focus on understanding how anti-Black racism uniquely affects the mental health and well-being of newcomer African, Caribbean, and Black (ACB) communities in Peel. This workshop aims to share important insights into the cultural, systemic, and institutional barriers that limit newcomers ACB individuals’ access to essential services while explore practical ways to adopt culturally safe, trauma-informed, culturally responsive and anti-racist practices to create inclusive organizations supporting newcomer ACB communities in Peel Region.


Keynote Speaker: Andria Barrett

Andria Barrett is an award-winning speaker and trainer who helps organizations beat burnout, boost engagement, and build healthy, inclusive workplace cultures. She works at the intersection of Equity, Mental Health, and AI, helping organizations to build a strong workplace cultures.


With over 15 years of experience, Andria has worked with schools, non-profits, and businesses of all sizes across Canada. Known for her playful and practical approach, she makes learning accessible and engaging. Whether she’s guiding teams through conflict resolution, diversity training, or mental wellness workshops, she brings clarity, compassion, and connection to every session.


An Accredited Partner of Play-Doh Power Solutions, one of the few in North America, she integrates creativity and hands-on learning to help teams unlock their full potential. Named one of Canadian SME’s Most Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs & Business Leaders, Andria also serves on advisory boards for Humber College and is a member of the Anti-Racism Advisory Committee with Peel Regional Police


About the Session:

Supporting the Mental Health of Newcomer ACB Communities


By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  • Understand how anti-Black racism impacts the mental health of newcomer ACB communities
  • Recognize bias and systemic barriers within workplaces and service delivery models.
  • Strengthen skills to create culturally safe, trauma-informed, and inclusive spaces.
  • Learn practical tools to support ACB employees, clients, and communities.
  • Commit to personal and organizational actions that foster belonging and equity.
