- **Event Description**: Com Pat Thomas sentado ao piano, Seymour Wright no saxofone, Antonin Gerbal na bateria e Joel Grip no contrabaixo, أحمد [Ahmed] é música de ritmo intenso, assente na repetição e evolução, para ouvir, contagiar e dançar. No centro está o legado de Ahmed Abdul-Malik, figura pioneira mas muitas vezes esquecida na história do jazz. Natural de Nova-Iorque, foi contrabaixista, compositor, filósofo e interprete de oud. No final dos anos 50, Thelonious Monk e John Coltrane incentivaram-no a liderar os seus próprios grupos, originando uma série de discos  – como 'Jazz Sahara' (1958), 'East Meets West' (1959), ou 'Sounds of Africa' (1962) – que traziam a herança da Ásia Ocidental e da África Oriental para o cânone jazz.  

أحمد [Ahmed] surge como um gesto de homenagem e reivindicação para reinscrever este legado no jazz. O quarteto escava, reinterpreta e reativa os documentos e a visão de Abdul-Malik para imaginar o jazz para o século XXI. Desde 2017 lançaram cinco álbuns, todos gravados ao vivo: 'New Jazz Imagination' (2017) – que conta com um retrato de Abdul-Malik na capa –, 'Super Majnoon (East Meets West)' (2019), 'Nights on Saturn' (2022), 'Giant Beauty' (2024) e 'Wood Blues' (2024). Improvisando a partir de músicas do histórico contrabaixista, as melodias de أحمد [Ahmed]  crescem até explodir num jazz enérgico, técnico e magistral, mas que, no fundo, não passa de um swing a todo o vapor.
