Takin’ the mic

December 1st, 7pm kick off

Hosted by Jill Boyd and Nicky J Rae as part of Spoke. Takin’ the Mic’s open mic event at the very welcoming Black Swan pub. A stone’s throw from Frizinghall train station and bus route 626 and the Bradford/Keighley shuttle buses A1 and A3.

We have the amazingly talented and wonderfully beautiful Barbara who is a local poet and author of two books of poetry: ‘After the raging.’ and ‘The Widow Witch.’ Barbara has done three solo shows for the Ilkley Literature Fringe Festival and supports all forms of poetry. She runs Talking in Tongues: Poetry is not Dead , open mic with Luke Hoggarth. Barbara’s work varies from page poetry to performance; with urban themes , mostly political and personal , from a woman’s perspective. She enjoys a good performance evening of spoken word.

Poetry, prose, and ditties are gratefully performed. Musical instruments are also welcome as part of performances, especially if it means we get to sing along too!

- 60 second challenge. December’s theme is Christmas/shopping. So write a poem ready to read out on the night. You win by how near your poem is to 60 seconds.

There will be a donations bucket to go towards helping Ukrainians. I am hosting a lovely Ukrainian lady at the moment. Her uncle is a pastor in their village and donations will be passing through me to that church to spend as they deem necessary.
