The talk will cover the history of photography with particular focus on Bradford and Leeds. The family photo album was very popular during the Victorian era. After having their photos taken at a local photographic studio people would give copies of their portraits to their family and friends. The albums sometimes also featured celebrities of the day, such as well known members of the Royal family, the family priest, authors and actors. Hardly anyone wrote the names of the sitters in their albums, either in the album itself or on the back of the photos, but through investigation using Ancestry and the British newspaper archives it is possible to find out much more about the families and sometimes even identify the people in the album .
As we do not know if any restrictions will be in place in August regarding gathering indoors, we are taking the precaution of limiting the number that can attend to fifteen and asking all those that do attend to take precautions by using face masks and hand sanitiser, along with social distancing.
