Sun 1/25, Cyanotype Photogram Printing with Ariel Skovera, 3-5:30pm

In this beginner alternative photographic printing class, photographer and artist Ariel Skovera will teach you how to make a photogram print using the 19th century cyanotype process! You will learn the steps of the cyanotype method and use botanicals and/or found objects as subject matter for your print. Ariel will start by going over the history, and science needed to create a Prussian blue image. During this session, Ariel will guide you through each step of the process. You’ll have the opportunity to coat chemistry onto the paper, creatively place your art elements on the paper, expose the paper under UV light, and then take your print to the final wash where you’ll watch it turn to a deep beautiful blue. Additionally, there will be transparency paper and markers to write or draw designs that could be added to the print with your other objects. Students will have the opportunity to make one 8” x 10” photogram print and one 5” x 6” photogram print.

If you would like, please feel free to bring some botanicals and foliage, or any other found objects that are flat in nature and have a slight translucency to them.

Ariel Skovera is a photographer and visual artist with a focus on alternative photographic processes. Her photography explores themes related to the passage of time and the changing interpretations of memory. Using processes like the 19th century cyanotype method, she furthers this exploration with photo negatives, botanicals, and other found elements.
