- **Event Description**: We are super excited for this new Workshop with our resident Dye Expert, Hilary. We collect a mix of local flowers, plants and other dyeables that are able to be used in bundle dyeing cotton & silk. This fun process will show you how to mordant your fabric various ways, delve into the various factors that can alter your colors like PH, show you how to use plants & flowers to create one of a kind nature prints and then we will steam your items to lock in the patterns. Each student will be able to dye a mix of 3 items: pre mordanted bandanas, fabric or silk small scarves. We will be using Kristen Artz Dye Kits in class, in addition to various food scraps, local plants and more. We will have one natural dye bath for a solid color in each class- rotating what its made from, things like Avocado pits, onion skins and more. You are welcome to bring 2-4 smaller 100% white or unbleached cotton items to dye in class (napkins are perfect, smaller shirts, small pillowcase, etc). Please come a bit early to put your items in the mordant soak so it can be able to be dyed the last hour of class. Due to the amount of work this class this requires and costs of fresh and rare materials- this class is priced a bit higher than other dye classes. We also will include a handout, resources and info to take home on after care. We do limit this class to 8 people for now so that steaming is not overcrowded and for safety.

WE DO USE COCHINEAL BUGS IN THE CLASS, BUT YOU ARE WELCOME TO MAKE A SUBSTITUTION IF YOU ARE VEGAN OR PREFER NOT SURE THE BUGS.
