Get ready for one of the most unique outdoor experiences Texas has to offer. This special weekend at Kickapoo Cavern State Park blends exploration, wildlife, and classic Hill Country scenery into a single unforgettable adventure.
We’ll start on Saturday afternoon with the park’s 1:00 PM undeveloped cave tour, a guided journey into the depths of one of Texas’s least-touched cavern systems. This tour is limited to just 10 participants, so secure your ticket right away - they sell out far in advance and availability is extremely limited.
After the tour, we’ll grab dinner at Pizza Outpost, a local favorite, before heading back to the park for an evening wildlife spectacle. At dusk, we’ll watch millions of Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from Stewart Cave, passing just a few feet away as they pour into the night sky. It’s an awe-inspiring experience you won’t forget.
We’ll camp overnight in the park and wrap up the weekend on Sunday morning with a 8.5-mile hike through Kickapoo’s rugged limestone terrain and quiet Hill Country trails before heading home.
If you’re looking for a weekend full of discovery, adventure, and one-of-a-kind natural wonders, this trip has it all.
Pro tip: Get your cave tour tickets as soon as possible, limited spots available! Make sure you bring two sources of light (headlamp and flashflight, for instance) for the cavern tour. Also, this park does not have any trash service, so be prepared to pack out all of your trash.
