Join us on October 24, 2025, for an experiential professional development opportunity at Cheakamus Centre!
This workshop is designed for educators eager to enrich their teaching practices in outdoor place-based learning and Indigenous perspectives. Participants will engage in hands-on activities around Cheakamus Centre, including time at our fish hatchery, working farm, and throughout the extensive trail network within our remarkable 165-hectare ecological preserve.
Through a series of experiential activities, participants will be introduced to the core elements of outdoor place-based learning and how this approach can be applied across a range of teaching disciplines. With a focus on learning from the local environment, fostering a sense of belonging to place, and appreciating the natural and cultural aspects of the area, participants will have opportunities to connect with their own ‘teaching places.’
This professional development experience will also help you foster respectful relationships with the land, guided by Indigenous Cultural Educators who share multi-generational knowledge and stories of the Ch’iyákmesh People. Highlights include learning about cultural uses of local plants and exploring traditional connections to land and place.
Participation includes a thoughtfully prepared meal created by our Executive Chef and culinary team in our stunning Environmental Learning Centre. At Cheakamus Centre, we believe in good food that promotes social and environmental responsibility. We care about the entire food cycle, from soil, to table, and back to soil, and are committed to delivering meals that help ensure our students and guests are healthy, happy, and energized. Participation in this event also includes Cheakamus swag, so don't miss out!
