This is your chance to learn hands-on, in person, and create your own stunning pieces without even using a pencil, in the freestyle technique called xieyi. Whether you're a newbie or have some experience, come along and have some fun exploring traditional techniques with us. First we will begin in Chinese ink, then paint the delicate grass orchid motif in color. There is an optional $20 add-on class for the afternoon (1:-3:30) which covers local flowers similar to the grass orchid motif in stroke, such as Chinese Ground Orchid, Spring Beauty, and the Yellow Trout Lily. The add-on can be paid in class by check or cash. A supply list order form will be sent to you within a week of checkout so that two beautiful Chinese brushes shown in the photo and other supplies will be ready for you in class for an additional fee. (Shared materials such as ink, paper, and Chinese watercolor are provided for in-class use.) This is the first of a series of four different classes like this one this summer, one each month, each providing two new Chinese brushes until you have a diverse set of eight brushes. You'll learn the uses of all of them through painting the four gentlemen: Grass Orchid, Bamboo, Chrysanthemum, and Plum Blossom.
