At the center of the story is 18-year-old Samantha Brown, valedictorian and rule-follower, who sits alone in a hand-me-down car, keys in hand. Caught between the life others have planned for her and the memory of her vibrant best friend Kelly—who pushed her to be brave—Sam faces a life-changing decision.
