The Mad Ones will have a three-performance weekend, August 15th-17th at The Star Style Theatre located within the Woodland Mall in Bowling Green, OH.
Mad to live, mad to talk, mad to be saved... 18-year-old Samantha Brown sits in a hand-me-down car with the keys clutched in her hand. Caught between a yearning for the unknown and feeling bound by expectation, she telescopes back to a time before her world had fallen apart. As she relives her senior year, we meet Sam’s well-intentioned helicopter mother Bev and her high school sweetheart of a boyfriend Adam, but it’s her painfully alive best friend Kelly that haunts her. Kelly was everything Sam is not – impetuous and daring. She pushed Sam to break rules and do the unexpected. When Kelly’s killed in a car wreck, Sam loses not only her best friend but also the part of herself that was learning to be brave. Now, Sam has to make a decision. Will she follow her mother’s dreams for her, or will she summon the courage to drive away from her friends and family into a future she can’t imagine?
Content Warnings:
HYT would like to make all actors and parents aware of two pieces of subject matter.
1. There will be two conversations had by the characters Sam and Adam that regard sexual intercourse. One of them is humorous and the other is serious. In addition, there will be a scene where it is implied that Sam and Adam engage in sexual intercourse. There will be NO physical contact beyond a stage kiss and NO removal of clothing. The actors will sit on a bed, have a stage kiss, and there will be an immediate black-out.
2. This show centers around the idea of grief. The character Kelly is killed in a car accident, and we witness Sam working through her senior year of high school while moving through her grief. There is no blood or gore, but the entire show revolves around this topic and the characters moving through their grief (with lots of moments of humor and light-heartedness to offset this, of course!)
