Guitar Teacher (Grade 8+)
Overview:
Bournemouth Music School seeks an accomplished guitarist to provide one-to-one tuition for students of all ages and levels. You will either travel to pupils’ homes or teach from your own well-equipped studio, helping us build Bournemouth’s leading music-education service.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 30- and 60-minute guitar lessons, covering acoustic and electric styles and adapting to students’ individual goals.
Prepare learners for graded exams, performances and broader musicianship, tailoring lesson plans to suit each student.
Maintain accurate progress records and communicate regularly with students and parents.
Take part in student recitals and support the growth of the school through referrals and feedback.
Essential Requirements:
Minimum Grade 8 (ABRSM, Trinity or equivalent) in guitar, with proficiency in multiple styles (classical, rock, blues, etc.); teaching qualification or prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.
Full UK driving licence and reliable transport to travel to students’ homes, or a home teaching space equipped with suitable instruments and a quiet environment (details to be discussed via Zoom during your application).
Valid enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one) to work with children and vulnerable adults.
Strong knowledge of music theory, sight-reading and improvisation; excellent communication and organisational skills.
Dependable, punctual and professional, with a genuine enthusiasm for music education.
Compensation and Progression:
Initial pay rate of £22 per hour (£11 per 30-minute lesson).
Potential increase to £30 per hour (£15 per 30-minute lesson) after six months’ continuous service and demonstrated excellence.
Eligibility for a profit-based year-end bonus after one full year of employment (new hires starting now would first qualify in January 2027).
Hours may be limited initially but will grow as our student base expands.

Applications are handled via Zoom and will include verification of your driving licence, home studio set-up and DBS certificate.
Shortlisted candidates will attend a practical interview at our Southbourne base, which will include a 10-minute performance of your best repertoire and a short trial teaching session.
