If you have any questions, please contact our Community Project Coordinator, Caroline, at caroline.bjohnson@recreatedorset.co.uk.About this workshopBetween November 2025 and May 2026, professional writers visit TOSH to discuss their pathways, inspirations and practice, answer questions about the writing process, and lead practical workshops on specific aspects of writing.This session features Jonathan Moore. Jonathan will talk about his creative pathway across theatre, screen and opera, what has shaped his voice as a writer and director, and what his working practice looks like. There will be time for questions, followed by a practical writing exercise.About Jonathan MooreDescribed by The London Evening Standard as “the Johnny Rotten of the British Theatre”, Jonathan Moore has worked in theatre, film and television for over 30 years.As an actor, he has performed leading roles with the Royal Shakespeare Company, at the Royal Court, the Donmar Theatre, Chichester Festival Theatre, the Royal Exchange Manchester, and in London’s West End. On screen he has co starred opposite Michael Caine, Gabriel Byrne, Dame Diana Rigg, and David Suchet.Jonathan is also an award winning director of stage plays, opera, musicals, film and television. He has directed world premiere work by leading contemporary composers, and his film version of the opera “Greek” won major awards.As a playwright, Jonathan has written eleven stage plays. His play “Treatment” premiered at the Edinburgh Festival and was later developed into a BBC film starring Jonathan and Gabriel Byrne. He began his writing career as Writer in Residence at The Albany Empire in Deptford, working with local writers to develop new scripts.His work spans theatre, opera, film and television, and includes large scale Shakespeare projects created for Shakespeare’s Globe and the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.About the Outsiders ProjectThe Outsiders Project began with a performance created for BEAF Arts Co Festival in 2018. Four artists who had previously taken part in writing workshops came together to make a site specific storytelling show combining words and music. Every word was written, spoken and performed by the artists themselves.Since then, The Outsiders Project has grown into a project shaped by the artists it supports. It has produced performances, toured to prisons and created publications and exhibitions. The project focuses on amplifying the voices of people who are unheard and marginalised. Work is first shared locally before being taken to wider audiences.Outsiders Project WorkshopsThe Outsiders Project runs free creative writing workshops throughout the year with marginalised communities in Boscombe. These workshops help participants develop skills, confidence and self belief.Outsider Artist CriteriaWorkshops are open to anyone over 18 who has been sidelined from society and whose voice has not been heard. The Outsiders Project welcomes participants who have experienced challenges such as physical limitations, addiction, low income, domestic or sexual abuse, homelessness or insecure housing, leaving care or Pr*son, institutional abuse, displacement or seeking asylum, or long term use of mental health services.See more information at gotbeaf.co.ukGetting to TOSHIf you are coming by foot or by bus, take the M2 bus and get off near Boscanova if travelling from Southbourne, or the stop after Aldi if coming from Poole or Bournemouth.
