I'm excited to bring all of you role rotaters a different type of rueda structure: Rueda Equis!
Rueda Equis is a fun type of rueda where there are no leaders or followers! With everyone dancing the same role this gives us a whole new array of ways to interact with each other, and a whole new level of chaos to explore!
Never danced rueda equis before?
No problem, not many people have! At the start of the workshop we will introduce and revise the basic rules of equis before exploring how common rueda calls work with the concept of equis. As long as you can both lead and follow in rueda then this workshop is for you!
An experienced rueda equis dancer?
No problem! It's important for everyone to revise and practise the basic calls that we use each session so that we are all confident with the structure before moving on to new ideas (and equis has an interesting way of revealing if you don't know a standard move as well as you thought...) There will always be new moves or transitions, so everyone will learn something new!
We will then be moving on to explore Rueda Alegria equis concepts and providing a whole new level of chaos and hilarity 😉
Not sure what to expect?
When dancing rueda equis, everyone needs to be able to both actively lead and actively follow in a rueda, because you will be doing both at the same time! This workshop is open to anyone who can both lead and follow in rueda and is aimed at intermediate/advanced level rueda dancers (ask if you're not sure whether it's for you!) You must be able to both lead and follow basic rueda calls (eg dame (dos), enchufle, sacala/exhibela, cero, manolin, prima) to join us, so if you're not confident in one of your roles, I would highly recommend that you attend a few salsa and rueda classes in your less familiar role to prepare. Please let me know in rueda class if you want to practise your least confident role so that I can support you! It's also very helpful to have experience dancing in an afuera (flipped) rueda, so any experience of different rueda structures will be useful to you.
Do I need to book?
For rueda equis workshops you do not need to pre-book, however, please be aware that previous workshops have sold out well in advance, and we are limited by the size of the room! The price of the workshop is £12.50. For card payments please book using this site, or speak to me/send a message if paying cash and you wish to reserve a pass.
