Principles will perform, act and sing the full show in costume, as per a fully staged production. 

The principals will be accompanied by a concert style chorus - this is known as 'Concert Staging'' and is often used in venues where it is not possible to use large sets and scenery. 

This style of performing a show is ideal for our special performances of Iolanthe this year.  Last years production of The Mikado at these two houses was a near sell out.


We are excited to be performing at two lovely venues:

Upton House

Merley House
Wimborne. BH21 3AA
Saturday 18th October
Matinee: 2.30pm
Evening: 7.30pm

'Iolanthe' - A Concert Staging of Libretto & Music

Synopsis

Strephon, an Arcadian shepherd, wants to marry Phyllis, a Ward of Chancery. Phyllis does not know that Strephon is half fairy (his upper half — his legs are mortal!) and when she sees Strephon kissing a seemingly young woman, she assumes the worst. But her "rival" turns out to be none other than Strephon's own mother, Iolanthe, a fairy — fairies never grow old.

But Phyllis' guardian, the Lord Chancellor, and half the peers in the House of Lords are sighing after her. Soon the peers and the fairies are virtually at war, and long friendships are nearly torn asunder. But all is happily sorted out, thanks to the "subtleties of the legal mind"

Set in the beautiful Upton House & Merley House, and full of fun and laughter, this show will lift up your spirits.

This will be our second year performing at both of these Manor Houses.  Last year we staged The Mikado to near full houses, and great reviews.
