Faculty Tuesdays: Extremely Close, Far Beyond

"Extremely Close, Far Beyond" traces a progression from direct musical expression toward broader sound worlds. The program features chamber works for trombone trumpet, and piano that emphasize contrast, dialogue and stylistic range.

The program opens with Daniel Schnyder's Sonata for Bass Trombone which blends rhythmic energy and elements of jazz and blues within a classical framework. Ricardo Molla's "Evening at the Opera" follows, bringing trumpet and bass trombone together in a dramatic exchange with operatic favorites. Daniela Candillari's "Extremely Close" shifts the musical focus to narrative, inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer's book "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close." The program concludes with a Colorado premiere of Elizabeth Raum's "A World Beyond," expanding sound through long lines and a lyrical approach influenced by North American concert music, offering a sense of breadth at the closing.
