- **Event Description**: The Boulder Junction Public Library and the Boulder Junction Area Historical Society invite you to the 2026 season of OurStory: A Monthly History Series. OurStory highlights local history topics and areas of interest that help us remember the past, understand how it impacts our present, and preserve these memories for the future.

Join us on Thursday, June 25 as we welcome John Zimm. Zimm is an author and editor who worked for the Wisconsin Historical Society for over fifteen years. He has published four books, and has written ten feature articles for the Wisconsin Magazine of History. Zimm has given numerous talks around the state and enjoys sharing his love of history. He did extensive research on a series of airship sightings that occurred in Wisconsin, and around the nation, in 1896 and 1897 that culminated in his article “A Close Encounter of the Steam-Powered Kind.”

Six years before the Wright Brothers completed their famous flight at Kitty Hawk, cigar-shaped airships were seen in the skies over Wisconsin traveling at improbable speeds, fascinating and baffling observers. Come hear Zimm tell stories from the sightings and hear some theories about what people might have seen.
