Lights on, mics hot! This hands-on class introduces youth ages 11–14 to the exciting world of community radio and podcasting—right inside a real radio station. Students will learn how radio works from the inside out while building confidence, creativity, and teamwork skills.

What kids will learn & do:

Explore how a community radio station operates

 Learn microphone technique, voice projection & on-air etiquette

Write short scripts, intros, and interview questions

 Get hands-on with audio recording and basic sound editing

 Choose music, add sound effects, and shape a show’s vibe

Create and record their own mini radio segment or podcast episode

The class emphasizes storytelling, communication, and media literacy, while encouraging kids to share their voices and ideas in a supportive, creative environment. Students will collaborate, problem-solve, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at how local media connects a community.

Bonus: Depending on scheduling and station guidelines, student work may be shared on KBCZ platforms or played during a youth feature segment—an unforgettable experience!
