Revesby Abbey, Lincolnshire - Paranormal Investigation/Ghost Hunt 16+

This event is open to persons over the age of 16 however all 16-17 year olds must be accompanied by a responsible adult eg. parent, guardian, carer or older family member.

Revesby Abbey was Cistercian monastery near the village of Revesby in Lincolnshire. The abbey was founded in 1143 by William de Roumare who was at the time, the Earl of Lincoln. A group of monks from from the stunning Rievaulx Abbey in Ripon were sent to inhabit the monatery and later Earl William joined the monks in their religious practices.

The monks stayed at Revesby for the next 400 years before the monastery was dissolved in 1536. The abbey then passed through several hands over the next 200 years and ended with Henry Howard, a local playwrite, passing on the abbey to his nephew, Craven Howard. Craven built a new residential house in the abbey grounds but not on the ruins and was then sold in 1711 to Joseph Banks, a former ship-mate of Captain Cook. Over the next 150 years, the house continued to be passed through the generations however in 1843-1844, the contents of the house were auctioned off and the land was passed on to James Banks Stanhope who had the house rebuilt and furnished from scratch.

The house has been unoccupied since 1968 however it is currently owned and managed by the Revesby Abbey Preservation Trust who are continually raising money to bring this former house back to its former glory.

Spirits of the former monks are known to wander the halls and the sounds of the servants can be heard going about their daily lives. Whilst we can't access all of the house due to safety reasons, we are still able to investigate many of the ground floor areas including the stables where team have witnessed table levitation and the mysterious priest hole where access is via a very dark and spooky tunnel.
