About this Event

Want to learn more about the scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs who made Boston one of the most innovative cities in the world? Join us for a special tour of Boston's new Innovation Trail, in collaboration with History Camp Boston.

We'll cover the invention of the telephone...the Ponzi scheme... surgical anesthesia...the Polaroid camera...Technicolor movies... the man who made gin-and-tonics icy cold... and Boston's very first clinical trial.

This tour will include a special visit to the Verizon Museum of Innovation in Communications, which is not regularly open to the public. This museum includes a recreation of Alexander Graham-Bell's laboratory, supervised by Thomas Watson; many early telephones; the first telephone switchboard; and other artifacts. (See photos below.)

Your host is Scott Kirsner, Innovation Economy columnist for the Boston Globe.

We'll gather at the Irish Famine Memorial in Downtown Crossing, and conclude near the MBTA's Charles/MGH Stop. You can walk back to the starting point, or take the Red Line one stop back to Park Street.

We'd love to have you join us! And if you can't make this date, join us for one of our other regularly-scheduled walking tours.

(We'll reschedule in the event of pouring rain, but otherwise will run the tour on August 11th. Once you buy a ticket, there are no refunds — sorry. But you may transfer it to another person.)
