At Ron's Shop
Saturday, March 28, at noon the motor maniacs from OMS will meet again at Ron Peters shop to continue the Boris Build. Last month Ron was there (of course), Paul, Ross, Brent, and Joe.
A pretty successful session it was. We diagnosed the problem with no oil pressure showing on the gauge. The idea was use a known good gauge to be sure there was pressure in the engine. First we disconnected the pressure line from the engine and tested the "known good" gauge using air from Ron's compressor. That showed the test gauge was good. Then we connected the test gauge to the engine, started Boris, and saw 80psi on the test gauge. Next, using air into the line to the gauge, showed 0psi at the gauge. Then Brent took the irritating job of unscrewing the instrument cluster, and tested the line to the gauge. That's fine. Using compressed air on the gauge showed 0psi. A bad gauge. Ross thinks he has one in his stash of parts.
On to another 'I thought that worked', we continued diagnosis on the turn signal circuit. We had previously tested up to the switch by the steering wheel. This time I brought a new flasher along. Ross and I retested the old flasher, still bad. Then we hooked up the new flasher and now the blinkers blink.
Boris continues to start every time the key is turned. That's progress. Next time it's back to the collection of small details to be finished. There remain plenty of work on odds and ends. The lights all work. More finishing touches like upholstery, and bright stuff. If the gas n grease gods are smiling, a short drive could happen. Heck, it's been seen running on public roads. Can't be that hard? I'm sure it sounds like a broken record, but there is a shortening list of small tasks when one is finishing a project car.
Small tasks include:
Set timing. Tune carb. Install the steering column covers. Repair rack boot. Anchor the front seats.
For those new to OMS, Boris is an early '60s Morris that club members have been assembling from donated components. The goal is to produce donations, via renting or selling Boris, for scholarships in local automotive education.
See you there, thank you for your support!!
